There are 3 initial criteria (which are a must but not enough) for a person to be successful in a service providing company (and probably several more types of companies):
1. NO EGO. You just can't provide the best quality of service if you act from your Ego. There is no chance dealing with the Ego you encounter coming from your clients if you act from your Ego.
2. E.Q. RATHER THAN I.Q.: sensitivity, flexibility and ability to understand your customer are in many cases more important than your I.Q.
3. HIGHEST LEVEL OF ETHICS: perform and act at the highest level of ethics and integrity with yourself, your colleagues, your peers, suppliers and partners.
Personal relationships with customers are crucial, getting to know the people behind the names, understanding how really to support them in the best way and keeping them as loyal clients.
A company having the best products nobody knows about is the place to be and a situation to ignore all the opinions you hear from all of your sides.
Your team's success is your success. Be there for your team. Lead them, guide them, give them the confidence they need to progress, let them know they are allowed to make mistakes (but there is a rule: never the same mistake twice). Let them know you are there for them guarding them. Give them credit for what they are doing! Recognize their hard work.
i would never be upset with someone who truly did his best but didn't succeed. I would be upset with someone who succeeded while not giving his best.
Waiting is an essential part of a process. You feel like the process is stuck, but it is not! it evolves all the time while you wait.
One of our roles as managers and leaders is to get our people to believe in themselves and their abilities more than they do. I was able many times to get my team to be totally surprised with what they can achieve. "I did this?", "i can't believe i did it" sentences i heard and that gave me the outmost satisfaction.
Being a leader doesn't necessarily mean you would be No. 1 in sales or in market share. Being a leader means that you are doing something new and you see how all are following you in your direction.
